Rutgers NB houses the oldest Queens College campus. It has 3 campuses in close proximity. Building style ranges from old Victorian to modern glass. Kirkpatrick Chapel, the Gothic Revival chapel on Old Queen’s campus, is another type that can be found. It’s a pretty open campus but if you're close by, you might want to check out Princeton. The architecture will take your breath away!
The best university in New Jersey and one the top public institutions in country. So big that there are 5 different campuses in the New Brunswick/Piscataway. A lot of great days on College Ave and Douglass and there is bus service to each part of campus which offers different things according to interests. Loved the football stadium as well
It is a very beautiful campus. The meeting rooms have been spacious and the event volunteers incredibly helpful. I don't know how the school life is, but the classrooms seem well designed and relatively up to date. Also there's good wifi access everywhere on campus
Transfer students beware. Rutgers prides itself in how poorly transfer students do as they feel it represents how good a school they are. I was stuck in a room for a half hour and had to pick all my classes from what was left over. Basically these were the classes no one else wanted to take. I ended up taking classes I had no prerequisites for. By sticking it to the transfer students the college looks better than it actually is. Counceling was poor and talking to a professor was generally minimal. They are too busy with their research so you end up talking to teachers assistants who don't know the subject very well and and often can barely speak English.
For 4 years Rutgers was our home, and the center of our family life. Our eldest children grew up here and the youngest was born. It was a wonderful life experience as a family, as people and students. Life at Johnson apartments was happy, with difficult moments of adaptation but definitely a great challenge. Being a family programmer on campus was an amazing experience where we enjoyed many moments with families from all over the world. Thanks Rutgers for those years!!
Anti semitic school, allows students to wave swastikas flags at protests, and prevent other students to protest against. Had to escort Jewish students off campus to not counter protest. Disgraceful school
My alma mater! My four years here were amazing, I loved all four campuses and loved the idea of being able to go to different places and that each campus had different things to offer.
The campus is beautiful though it is not quite as lovely as Princeton. However, the endowment at a public university pales in compares to that of an Ivy League school. Expect the New Brunswick campus to be what it is, a campus for a Big Ten school. The scenery of the New Brunswick campus is nicer than that of many other campuses in its tier though not quite on par with say the campus of Indiana University Bloomington or University of Colorado Boulder, both of which I have visited. That having been said, there is no mountain range at the backdrop of New Brunswick as you will find in Boulder, Colorado.
Unfortunately, the university pays their less-tenured faculty an insulting salary. One of my family members is a published scientist who has accomplished formidable research. She did not participate in a recent labor strike which was well-publicized by both local and national media.
If Rutgers top brass really promoted equality, it would go beyond initiatives supporting ethnic and gender diversity by providing adequately pay to its workers. The university does not do that.
On a positive note, Egalitarianism lay at the heart of Rutgers. The school can take pride that renowned Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg once taught there.
Make no mistake though - gorgeous red brick buildings which sprawl beyond campus gates are not open doors for the working class. Worker exploitation run amuck.
Come here to study as a student. Folks in New Brunswick welcome you with warm regard. Workers and post-doc graduates - avoid this place. Untenured scientists and lecturers: You are welcome for your diligence but will find yourself shut out in the cold if or when you are seeking a fair salary to feed your family or pay your rent.
